Strength Through Collaboration
At the San Jose Cannabis Council (SJCC), we know that meaningful change happens through partnerships. We work hand-in-hand with government agencies, non-profits, public health organizations, community groups, and equity-focused initiatives to amplify our impact. These alliances help us deliver better education, support equity pathways, advocate for balanced policies, and ensure resources reach those who need them most.
Our collaborations align with ongoing efforts like San Jose's Cannabis Equity Program (which continues to support qualified applicants from the 2024 academy and lottery process) and statewide opportunities, including the FY 2025-26 Cannabis Equity Grants Program for Local Jurisdictions (applications closed December 8, 2025, with awards expected in March 2026).
Our Key Partners and Collaborators
City of San Jose – Division of Cannabis Regulation (San Jose Police Department)
The primary regulatory body overseeing cannabis businesses in San Jose. We collaborate on community education, harm reduction messaging, and amplifying official resources like registered business lists, ordinances, and equity program updates. We refer residents to their site for licensing info and align our workshops with current rules (e.g., retail application status and municipal code requirements). This partnership ensures our education is accurate and compliant.
San Jose Cannabis Equity Program (City of San Jose)
We support the City's equity initiatives, including the Cannabis Equity Business Academy (completed Spring 2024 with 29 graduates) and the selection of up to 10 eligible equity retail applicants. SJCC provides supplemental mentorship, workshops, and resources to help participants navigate registration and business startup—complementing the City's efforts without duplicating them.
California Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) – Cannabis Equity Grants Program
We monitor and promote statewide funding opportunities, such as the FY 2025-26 grant solicitation (closed December 2025) that provides up to millions for local jurisdictions to expand equity programs. We advocate for San Jose to apply for and utilize these funds effectively, building on past awards and supporting community awareness of economic justice tools.
California Department of Cannabis Control (DCC)
As the state licensing and regulatory authority, DCC provides critical guidance on licensing, research grants (e.g., $30M awarded in December 2025 for academic studies), and consumer safety. We reference their resources in our education materials and align with statewide standards for responsible use and equity advancement.
Santa Clara County Public Health Department
Collaborating on youth prevention, harm reduction, and public health messaging. We co-host sessions on underage access prevention, mental health impacts, and community safety—ensuring our programs complement county priorities around regulated cannabis and public wellness.
California Cannabis Operators Association (CaCOA)
A statewide trade group representing licensed operators. We partner on advocacy for sustainable policies, labor standards, youth protection, and a thriving regulated market—bridging community interests with industry needs.
Local Community Organizations (e.g., Neighborhood Associations, Reentry Programs)
We work with groups in neighborhoods like East San Jose, Willow Glen, and North San Jose for outreach, listening sessions, and event hosting. These grassroots alliances help tailor programs to local concerns, such as odor control, security, and equitable access.
