San Jose Cannabis Council
A non-profit dedicated to promoting responsible cannabis use, education, advocacy, and equity in San Jose, California.
Since our founding in 2021, we've worked to empower communities disproportionately impacted by past cannabis policies, creating a safer, more inclusive, and better-informed future for all residents.
Our Mission
At the San Jose Cannabis Council (SJCC), we are guided by the belief that informed choices, community leadership, and equitable policies can transform lives. As a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, our work is built on four core pillars:
Education
Delivering accurate, evidence-based information about cannabis, including responsible consumption guidelines from the California Department of Public Health, local San Jose ordinances, and peer-reviewed research. For example, under Proposition 64 (2016), adults 21+ may possess up to 28.5 grams of cannabis flower for personal use—but education helps ensure safe, legal, and mindful choices.
Advocacy
Championing fair and forward-thinking policies, such as expanding San Jose’s Cannabis Equity Program (which received over $1 million in state funding in recent years) and supporting reduced barriers for equity applicants, including shorter setback distances for licensed businesses.
Community Support
Community SupportOffering harm-reduction resources, youth prevention programs, medical patient advocacy, veteran support, and senior education initiatives, all aligned with the City of San Jose’s Division of Cannabis Regulation and Santa Clara County public health priorities.
Equity & Inclusion
Prioritizing individuals and families harmed by the War on Drugs through grants, training, and business-launch support, following successful models seen in San Jose’s equity academies and California’s statewide GO-Biz equity framework.
These efforts create measurable value: healthier families, stronger local economies, reduced stigma, and a thriving, regulated cannabis marketplace that benefits everyone in San Jose.
Our Key Programs
